About

Bob and I started this blog to develop and discuss real world problems in applying state-of-the-art Statistical Machine Learning (SML) and other AI / NLP issues in the internet domain.

We program in Ruby for convenience, and C/C++ for performance.  We use Support Vector Machines (SVMs) and other Maximum Margin (MM) methods as our primary tools.  We hope to cover large scale problems such as Text Classification and Analytics, Search Engine Ranking and Relevance, Recommender Systems, etc.   Expect state-of-the-art solutions for topical problems.

Please suggest a topic, offer some advice, or ask a question.

About Bob

Bob’s been developing web applications since 1996, back when they were called “shopping carts.” After helping build a successful business ISP (acquired by Highspeed), he spent four years growing a software development company in the aerospace industry (acquired by Mercer). Hungry to deploy web applications at scale, Bob joined Yahoo! where he worked on various social products (360, Groups, Open Strategy) before joining the Mechanical two and a half years later.
